MIDLAND, Mich. – The Midland Symphony Orchestra will hold children’s dance auditions for Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” on Sept. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. Auditions are open to boys and girls ages 9 through 18 with at least two years of ballet training; no pointe experience is required. Auditions will be at Midland Center for the Arts. Performance dates are Dec. 7 – 9.

Children should arrive for the audition by 4:45 p.m. to fill out required paperwork. Required rehearsals are September 15 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and September 16 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The remaining schedule will be announced at a later date. Rehearsals will be under the direction of Sandra Black. There will be a $65 fee for participating children to cover shoes, tights, and costuming. Dancers will have the unique opportunity to rehearse and perform under the direction of the Grand Rapids Ballet artistic director James Sofranko.
