Explore your inner poet with this series of poetry workshops designed for anyone at any stage of their artistic journey. Hosted by spoken word poet Grace Carras, these workshops will culminate in an open mic poetry night on Thursday, September 19. Poets and writers can attend one or all free workshops; pre-registration is required for each workshop as space is limited.
August 28 session: : the List Poem. We will hear and read examples of this form, talk about the differences and similarities between spoken word and page poetry, and try a fun writing exercise that we hope will spark some inspiration. This workshop is suitable for beginners, as well as seasoned poets who would like to try diving into the style of spoken word.
Grace Carras is a spoken word poet from Midland, Michigan. She is the winner of the 2019 Mark Ritzenehin Emerging Poet Award, the 2018 Lansing Sidewalk Poetry Competition, and was a semifinalist in the 2018 College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational, where she and her team placed 9th in the world. She leads creative writing workshops for students at the Alden B Dow Home and Studio, and is a proud co-founder of The Poetry Room Open Mic in Lansing, which she co-hosted for two years.
