Smart Phone Users Group

Join this monthly discussion class concerning all things related to Smart Phone Photography. Discuss apps and new approaches, as well as share ideas in a relaxed and creative atmosphere. Some experiences with smartphone photography apps is recommended.

Silk Painting Workshop

This is an exciting and stimulating workshop to explore design, color and painting on silk. Design techniques are easy to apply and painting florals are perfect for this art form. This workshop is relaxed and geared for the beginner or the seasoned artist interested in exploring silk painting. Learn a new and easy way to design breathtaking & vibrant fabric while working with others. We will be completing three scarves at the end of the workshop.

Advanced Critique

Artists explore their individual genre of work using the media of their choice. The class meets for 90 minutes each week for discussions, questions on works-in-progress and designing new strategies for conceptual expansion. There will be two formal critiques in this course, each lasting three hours: one in the middle of the term, and one the final day. The artists will have the opportunity to bring two works for review. The final critique will consist of a locally well-known artist or art-related professional invited to participate in the review.

This 9-week course is open to intermediate and advanced artists only.

Beginning Ceramics

This class is for true beginners as well as experienced potters interested in working on their hand building skills. The instructor will use a project oriented approach to teaching the three basic hand building skills: pinch pot, coil, and slab. Students will also be introduced to the extruder and glazing.

Figure Drawing

Capture the figure quickly, accurately, and confidently. Figurative drawing has always been the most challenging and expressive subject matter for artists. This is a class for anyone who has always wanted to learn how to draw the human figure, as drawing is of unclothed male or female models each week. Emphasis is on proportion, anatomy and representation of the figure as a dynamic, living entity. Model fees are included in the tuition.

This class is for ages 18 and above. Ages 16 and 17 are welcome with written parental consent.

Oil Painting Begin/Intermed

Oil Painting; Beginning & Intermediate

Learn the basics of oil painting or hone your oil painting skills. Beginning and intermediate students will work with the materials and techniques unique to oil painting. Explore different mediums and supports as you learn to manipulate brushes, mix color and apply paint using traditional and contemporary proccesses. Students will study old masters’ techniques, such as grisaille and painting alla prima and will be encouraged to develop an individual painting style as they paint from still life, landscape and portrait subject matter.

Darkroom Independent Studies

This class is for individuals who have previously had some darkroom experience working with B&W film and printing. Students will have access to the darkroom whenever the Center is open. All chemicals will be provided. Students will furnish their own film and enlargement paper. The instructor, Stephen K. Grewe, will be in the darkroom for the beginning session and every two weeks for two hours. This time will be for answering questions, working with problem prints, and for critique. Mr. Grewe will also be available to students by phone and email. Please call Mr. Grewe (989-550-1437) to discuss the class.
