Design and Composition, The Basics
If you’re taking drawing or painting this class is invaluable, it serves as a good starting point or a refresher
course in basic design and composition for the artist. From the beginning you will explore the elements and
principles of design. The elements or what can be thought of as the building blocks are imperative in the
creation process. Line, shape and space, to name a few, will be of great emphasis. Balance, movement
and emphasis are principles consistently used in the composing process. These principles will be
understood and applied so the strength of your composition is never in question.

Art Talk
Art talk is a series of one-day interactive seminars. Get familiar with the talented artists in Mid-Michigan. A
panel of three artists will present their body of work. The presentation session will be followed by a “round
table” discussion.
We will start the morning with each artist highlighting their body of work and their career through visual
presentation. The artists will go in depth on how, why and when their work was created and delve into their
techniques and concepts. The presentation sessions will be followed by a pizza lunch with the artists. You
have a chance to talk to them and will also write up to three questions for the artists to answer in the
“roundtable” session beginning at 1 pm. Questions will be drawn at random. All three artists have been
posed six questions. They will discuss and answer these questions as a group during the roundtable session. After a small break, the artists will answer the questions posed by students (as many as time allows).
