Work with Broadway Talent!

Rising Stars: Newsies

AUDITIONS / SAT, APR 27 / 10 AM - 1 PM

Every summer, Midland Center for the Arts searches for the top talent in the Great Lakes Bay Region for an intensive, professional-level acting or technical theatre experience and training from a Broadway Creative Team. This initiative is designed for Rising Stars, High School students (rising ninth graders through current graduating seniors), who will work through an intensive rehearsal process and star in a popular musical geared towards teens. Rehearsals will include a professional-level schedule.

Sara Gochenour

Sara Gochenour
Acting & Improv Instructor

Sara Gochenour is a theatre artist, actor, and educator with over fifteen years of experience working in educational and community theatre. She got her BA in Theatre Communication from Grand Valley State University, where she performed in many shows, including touring educational shows both to local Michigan schools and internationally. Recently she was on the Center’s stage as Jo in Little Women, as well as working as production Dramaturg for Little Women and These Shining Lives. After working with the brilliant students of the fall Beginning Stages session, she is excited to play (and learn) with the spring BeSties and acting/improv students!

Nick Pellegrino


Acting & Improv Instructor

Nick Pellegrino is an educator and preschool teacher assistant at the Chippewa Nature Center where he enjoys to spend his time loving nature and laughing with kids! He has worked on many shows at the Center for the Arts on and off the stage since 2017.

Zoe Deschaine


Musical Theatre Instructor

Zoë Deschaine is a music educator in the Mid-Michigan area. She is passionate about helping students be their best and growing in confidence through music. She teaches locally and also has a private studio. She has been the music director for several K-12 productions in the area, the most recent of which was Matilda, Jr. She is so excited to help more kids along their musical theatre journeys through the Center.

Megan Meyer


Musical Theatre Instructor

Megan Meyer (She/Her) is new to the Michigan area and has quickly picked up performing at the Lebowsky Center in Owosso, The Flint Rep, as well as the Midland Center for the Arts.  Megan received her education from AMDA NYC and graduated in 2012. In 2019 she was in the nationwide search for Chicago the Musical’s top 10 Search for Roxie on Broadway. Megan works as a voice-over artist and has over 50 books on audible. Other theatre credits include: Princess Fiona in Shrek the Musical, Claire in Proof, Nora in A Doll’s House, Marta in Company, Miss Dorothy in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and more.
