Meet the Conductor!
Dr. Letícia Grützmann is the newly appointed Conductor of the Midland Center for the Arts Chorale and Camerata. She comes to the Chorale with over fifteen years of experience as a choral director, singer, and clinician. Having conducted a variety of ensemble levels, from children to senior, and from school to collegiate and professional choirs, Dr. Grützmann brings versatility and a vast knowledge of repertoire and rehearsal approaches. She is also the newly appointed Director of Choral Studies at Saginaw Valley State University, where she conducts two choirs and teaches voice private students, conducting class, aural skills, and other classes in the choral area of the Music Education degree.
Dr. Grützmann is a Brazilian artist. In Brazil, she earned two undergraduate degrees, one in Conducting Performance, and later a Music Education degree with Voice emphasis. There, she was an active choral scholar, singing in professional choirs and in a quartet specializing in Renaissance Music. She also performed multiple times as a soloist for choral/orchestral major works, and several opera choruses. In addition to her singing activities, she held several appointments conducting community, church, and children’s choirs. Dr. Grützmann was also the Assistant Conductor for the String Orchestra at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, and for the University of Caxias do Sul Symphony Orchestra.
In 2015, Dr. Grützmann moved to the United States to pursue her graduate studies. She earned two Master’s degrees from West Virginia University: Conducting and Voice Performance. At the same institution, she later earned a Doctoral degree in Conducting. During her Doctorate, she founded the Vox Principalis Choral Association, dedicated to the performances of major works for choir and orchestra. She was also the Conductor of the West Virginia Women’s Chorus, regularly collaborating with the Morgantown Community Orchestra, and the Conductor for the Morgantown Children’s Chorus, regularly collaborating with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra and the Morgantown Community Orchestra.
