Student Matinee Performances

Welcome, school groups!

Midland Center for the Arts offers Weekday Student Matinee performances for educational groups priced at only $5 per seat. These theater experiences indulge the imagination while supporting arts (visual, music, dance, etc) and literature curriculum.

Only groups of 10 or more qualify for complimentary adult tickets. Limit 2 complimentary tickets per show.

You will be seated as a group based on quantity of tickets reserved, timing of reservation and in some cases age of students. Your tickets are non-refundable and must be paid in full 2 weeks prior to the performance. All attendees, regardless of age (including chaperones and bus drivers) must pay admission. Midland Center for the Arts does not provide transportation. If Midland Center cancels the show for any reason, a representative will call the contact person listed on the order with details and possible re-scheduling information. Although reservations are required, you will not be sent individual tickets. Ushers will assist you to the appropriate seating areas.

A Christmas Carol

In this thrilling new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic, local playwright Claire-Frances Sullivan breathes fresh life into Dickens’ most beloved characters! Join us as we re-imagine Scrooge, Tiny Tim and Cratchit onto our stage, introducing a new generation of theatre lovers to this timeless story of redemption. Witness Ebenezer Scrooge’s transformation from a stingy miser to a man who generously celebrates the spirit of the season all year long! A Skype Q&A with the playwright will follow the performance.

Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad

Celebrate Black History Month with this wonderful production performed by the Virginia Rep on Tour, internationally acclaimed for excellence as a theatre for young audiences. This stirring drama with music is a classic tribute to the great American who freed herself and hundreds of her people from the bonds of slavery. As Harriet and her friend Sarah Bradford narrate her adventurous life, we share in the joys, sorrows, and challenges faced by this brave woman who changed the world through her courage. Accurate and deeply moving, Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad is at turns inspiring, heart-warming, and comical, full of the good humor, determination and the charity of its subject. You will find a new appreciation for Harriet Tubman, and a deeper understanding of her times.

The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System
