Beginning Ceramics

This class is for beginning clay students as well as experienced students who are interested in working on their hand-building skills. The teacher will use a project-oriented approach to teach the three major hand building methods: pinch pot, coil, and slab. Students will also be introduced to the extruder and tile making. Hand-building helps students to understand the properties of clay and learn skills all ceramic students need, including those interested in working on the wheel. The projects introduced will allow students to explore the potential of clay as an artistic medium. It will also allow experienced students to build upon the projects introduced or to pursue their own projects with support from the teacher. For those interested, wheel throwing will be introduced. All students will be expected to purchase clay from the studio for $40.
