iPhone Photo Group

In response to the success of the smartphone photography workshops and our summer art group, a new group is forming! Join this once a month discussion group concerning all things related to smartphone photography. We will meet the first Tuesday of every month in studio 2 from 6 – 8:00 PM through January 3, 2017. As a group we will talk about new apps, new approaches, share our work, and discuss our processes in a relaxed, fun atmosphere using PowerPoint and other visual aids.

Art & Skill of Drawing III

“The Art and Skill of Drawing” is a 4-part, 48-week series of classes designed with the beginner in mind, but intermediate drawing students will get a lot of new information as well. Refine drawing fundamentals and concentrate on artistic expression to bring more concepts and ideas into your work. We will concentrate on building your personal artistic language within drawing. Graphite is still the medium used.

The Art and Skill of Drawing III is open to intermediate students. the Art & Skill of Drawing I or II is not a prerequisite but rudimentary level of drawing is helpful. All students will receive individual instruction, no matter what their level.

A supply list will be distributed and discussed the first day of class.

Fundamentals of Drawing I

This is an essential class for those who want to draw and is a great starting point for those who would like to move into other media such as painting, photography, sculpture, and even digital art. Learn the art of observation, the first component in learning how to draw, and be introduced to drawing fundamentals: line, shape, volume, proportion, space, shading, value and sight measuring. These techniques will be applied to black-and-white media with primary concentration on graphite.

Dancing Through Life

One of the hardest parts of any audition is the choreography. This class teaches the ins and outs of dancing auditions, as well as tricks to help you remember the steps. Practice the famous choreography styles such as Fosse, Twyla Tharp, and Fred Estair. Some dance experience required.

Abstract Painting

Abstract art is a style of painting in which color and form, rather than a representation of tangible objects or people, make up the subject of the painting. This class is a combination of technique and art history with emphasis on composition, color theory, and basic art elements used to create a work of art that expresses the statement the artist wants to make.

Toddler Tunes

For walking babies 18 months – 3 years and their caregivers.

A wonderful musical beginning includes singing, rocking, finger games and lots of rhythm play. Keyboard geography includes high and low notes, black and white keys and playing/stopping concepts. In class you will experience and share: movement and rhythm, activity songs for body awareness, songs to sing (fun, silly, and lullabies), playing small percussion instruments, keyboard games, activities and manipulatives (hoops, streamers, balls, etc.), listening activities (quiet and active).

A punch-card allows 6 class sessions to fit your schedule; multiple cards may be purchased or sessions may be purchased one-at-a time to attend the sessions that fit your schedule. Please purchase your punchcard via the MCFTA Ticket Office.

Advanced Critique

Artists explore their individual genre of work using the media of their choice. The class meets for 90 minutes each week for discussions, questions on works-in-progress and designing new strategies for conceptual expansion. There will be two formal critiques in this course, each lasting three hours: one in the middle of the term, and one the final day. The artists will have the opportunity to bring two works for review. The final critique will consist of a locally well-known artist or art-related professional invited to participate in the review. This 9-week course is open to intermediate and advanced artists only.

Begin/Inter Water Media

This class is for beginning and intermediate students who wish to explore the creative possibilities of water-media. Students will be encouraged to express themselves as they develop skills in using watercolors, acrylics and other water-based media. They will learn techniques unique to each medium and will develop skills in color mixing, brush handling, and composition. Class time will include instructor demonstrations as well time for each student to practice technique and develop individual style as they receive individual attention.
