Fused Glass for Beginners

Learn fundamentals of fusing glass while creating your own artwork! Topics will include glass compatibility, firing schedules, annealing, design and safety. Each student will create one 5- to 6-inch tile and 2 small jewelry pieces. Finished work will be ready for pick-up the following week. No experience necessary. Safety glasses will be provided; bring an apron or smock if desired. Long pants & comfortable closed-toe shoes should be worn.

Material fee of $25 must be paid to the instructor.

Takes place off-site at instructor’s unheated, no A/C studio/garage. Please dress appropriately for the weather!

Intermediate Acrylic Painting

Abstract Painting

Abstract art is a style of painting in which color and form, rather than a representation of tangible objects or people, make up the subject of the painting. This class is a combination of technique and art history with emphasis on composition, color theory, and basic art elements used to create a work of art that expresses the statement the artist wants to make.

Young Musician 4 (8-11)

For ages 8-11 (3rd-5th grades)

The Young Musician courses work with students on keyboard performance and note reading in a holistic program, including the organized development of pitch, rhythm, solfege singing, keyboard and movement activities. Participation in this course requires the purchase of a Primer music book, available from the instructor. Parent involvement in class and at home required. Participation in Young Musician 3 or similar experience recommended.

Scheduled days off will be distributed at the beginning of the semester by the instructor.

Advanced Critique

Artists explore their individual genre of work using the media of their choice. The class meets for 90 minutes each week for discussions, questions on works-in-progress and designing new strategies for conceptual expansion. There will be two formal critiques in this course, each lasting three hours: one in the middle of the term, and one the final day. The artists will have the opportunity to bring two works for review. The final critique will consist of a locally well-known artist or art-related professional invited to participate in the review. This 9-week course is open to intermediate and advanced artists only.

Harmony Road 2-3 (4.5-6)

For ages 4 1/2 – 6 years (K – 1st grades).

The Harmony Road course is carefully constructed for children to learn the basic building blocks of music. Emphasis is on ear training, solfege singing, keyboard playing, ensemble and rhythm activities, movement and music creativity. This exceptional course gives the student “inner hearing,” which makes transposing, improvisation and composing easily accessible in their musical studies. Parent involvement in class and at home. This class is a continuation of the Harmony Road 2 program with students transitioning to the Harmony Road 3 curriculum during the semester. A new boo kpurchase will be required as needed.

Intermediate Ceramics

Fine-tune your skills and build on your existing knowledge of ceramics. Whether you choose handbuilding, slab construction or wheel throwing, explore ways to improve techniques and create carefully constructed pieces. Work on your own projects with guidance from the instructor as needed. Various intermediate techniques/concepts/projects will be demonstrated during the semester. Want a challenge? Project assignments will be given upon request. Group critiques will be held periodically. The studio will be available for working independently outside of class time. Materials fee: Clay needs to be purchased from the instructor for $35; porcelain for $45.

Art Sampler

Want to take an art class but don’t know where to begin? Try this art sampler class. The class will incorporate elements of drawing, painting, ceramics and print making classes with 3 weeks in each medium. This is a fantastic way to find out what to expect in an adult art class in a fun and easy going format. This program is taught by some of the best artists in the area including Armin Mersmann, Ruth Howell, Judy Crawford and Valerie Allen.
