Plein Air (Adult)

In this nine-week course you will work in the Dow Gardens experiencing the beauty of nature while transferring your feelings and observations to canvas or paper. Students choose their own medium as they study light and its relationship to form, atmosphere, color and mood. Individual attention and instruction provided. Students are encouraged to bring a camera to take photographs to use as a reference in case of rain. The galleries will be used on rainy days and for critiques. Admission to Dow Gardens is included in the class price.

Interim Drawing (Adult)

This drawing class is for students who want to keep drawing between the Art and Skill of Drawing 3 and the fall session of Art and Skill of Drawing 4. We will use this time to review your work and start on new projects. Most of the work will be done at home at your leisure. Students who have knowledge of drawing who are not in the Art and Skill classes are welcome to come and draw as well.

This class meets every other Tuesday. Class meets: 6/7, 6/21, 7/12, 7/26, 8/9, 8/23.

Smartphone Photo (Adult)

In response to the success of the Smart Phone Photography classes, a new group is forming! Join this bi-weekly summer discussion class concerning all things related to Smart Phone Photography. We will meet every other Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 PM to talk about new apps, new approaches, share our work and discuss our processes in a relaxed, fun atmosphere using powerpoint and other visual aids. Open Ceramics (Adult)

In this intermediate-level class you will work on your own projects with tutelage from your instructor. Whether you wish to construct your projects by means of sculpture, hand building (using pinch, coil, model, or slab work) or by throwing on the potter’s wheel, individual instruction and demonstrations will be available during class time.

Toddler Tunes (18 mon-3)

A wonderful musical beginning includes singing, rocking, finger games and lots of rhythm play. Keyboard geography includes high and low notes, black and white keys and playing/stopping concepts. In class you will experience and share: movement and rhythm, activity songs for body awareness, songs to sing (fun, silly, and lullabies), playing small percussion instruments, keyboard games, activities and manipulatives (hoops, streamers, balls, etc.), listening activities (quiet and active).

A punch-card allows 6 class sessions to fit your schedule; multiple cards may be purchased or sessions may be purchased one-at-a time.

There are no classes the week of July 4th.

Mid-Mich Voice Academy (13+)

Do you love to sing? Would you like meet other passionate singers? The Mid-Michigan Voice Academy is a one-week intensive for people like you, a chance to dive into the many aspects of vocal music. You will have the opportunity to meet and speak with accomplished professionals from the Broadway and operatic stage including hometown natives Brian D’Arcy James, Katie Travis and Eric Bourne, receive instruction and coaching on solo performance in a masterclass setting, and engage in a lively choral experience with your fellow participants culminating in a public concert at the end of the week!
