   VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

OPPORTUNITIES ABOUND!

Volunteer ServicesAt Midland Center for the Arts, volunteers support theatre both onstage and behind the scenes, sing in our choirs and play in our community orchestra, take science programs offsite, introduce school children to the fascinating side of history and the delights of visual art, host art fairs, and more. Volunteers are involved in visual arts, music, drama, science, history, lectures; many of our volunteers choose to be involved in multiple areas. If you are interested in being more connected with your community, supporting important non-profit art and science ventures, learning new skills and meeting other interesting people, then volunteering for the Center may be the perfect answer.

Our volunteer force is an integral part of the wide selection of educational and entertainment options that the Center offers to Midland and the surrounding communities.

Interested in volunteering? Download a Volunteer Application Form to get started. (PDF, 203k).
After completing your application, please drop it off at the Visitor Services desk at MCFTA any time the building is open.

YOU HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY AT THE CENTER

Stage Volunteers
Volunteering in theatre and music can become a lifelong activity for the entire family. There is a niche to fill every area of interest, whether you want something to do only occasionally or you want the "full impact" experience!

Ushers greet audiences, distribute programs and guide people to seats (and see the show for free!)

Technical Crews and Stagehands assist with lighting, sound, set construction and painting, moving scenery and other fun activities. Have a carpentry skill? Or you’d like to learn how to run a light board? Join Theatre Guild’s "Geezers" and have a regular commitment, or crew an occasional show.

Makeup and Costume Assistants design and sew costumes and apply makeup. Sewing skills are deeply appreciated, but there is handwork to do, too.

Actors audition and participate in comedies, musical theatre, dramas and children’s theatre.

Musicians play in orchestras, bands and recitals for kids’ musicals, adult musical theatre or adult choral events. We even have a community orchestra – check it out!

Singers – Over 100 youth and adults are involved in choral groups and musical theatre each year. Music Society sponsors choirs for third grade through adult. Check us out!

Make-a-Lot Sessions are a great way to be involved in a production if your schedule is too busy to work backstage or onstage. They are focused on prop finishing, painting, and costumes. We will train all experience levels. Wear appropriate painting clothes and closed-toed shoes. Nothing compares to seeing your work onstage on opening night! These sessions are free and open to the public and cast.

Museum Volunteers
If you love a quality museum experience, then you understand the importance of dedicated volunteer docents and tour guides who can help inspire similar appreciation in our guests.

Museum Docents lead tour groups through the Museum or Historic Sites in Heritage Park and help others develop an interest in the gallery exhibits and hands-on science museum offerings.

Gallery Sitters serve as attendants to insure that the artwork is not disturbed, answer questions and/or refer inquires.

Exhibition Assistants – Be among the first to see incoming regional exhibits by helping assemble, hang and strike exhibitions.

Library and Archive Maintenance Assistants - Help keep records, file, preserve artifacts and help prepare exhibitions.

Tour Guides, School Program Presenters, Docents and Lecturers provide information an a particular exhibition or arts program to the public.

Informal Science Educators give demonstrations to school groups and help kids and teachers fully explore the hands-on science museum experience.

Symphony Volunteers
Support the Midland Symphony Orchestra through a wide range of opportunities, depending on your area of interest and availability, including:
• Concert usher or ticket taker
• Office assistance
• Audition assistance
• Lecture and rehearsal hospitality
• Receptions and luncheons
• Educational programs such as Tunes for Tots
• Special events and fundraisers

Call (989) 631-5930, ext. 1600 for further information. Let us know your interests and we'll add your name to our contact list. Learn more about our official service organization, the Symphony League...

Administration Volunteers
Office Assistants help with mailing, telephones, reception, filing, data input, general secretarial work, research and other administrative areas. Are you a "scrapper"? Several groups would like their programs and photos archived in scrapbooks! Do you love people? Office helpers and admissions assistants are in the middle of all the activity.

Membership Assistants determine and develop new membership prospects, assist with membership records and coordinate membership events.

Program Coordinators, Committee Chairs and Committee Members help staff members create, develop and present special events. Are you a "‘party person"? Help us set up special events, take care of artists’ needs for our fairs, or "wrangle" children during group activities.
