   VISITING MIDLAND CENTER FOR THE ARTS

The two "campuses" – Midland Center for the Arts and the Midland County Historical Society’s Heritage Park – are within easy access of US-10 and M-20. Performances, exhibits, films, lectures, permanent hands-on science museum and a permanent collection of Midland artifacts are all included in the activities of MCFTA. Meanwhile, the main campus shares a parking lot with the Dow Gardens, another great regional experience.

OUR LOCATION
To Midland Center for the Arts

Located at 1801 W. St. Andrews at the corner of St. Andrews and Eastman Avenue in Midland, Michigan, the Center is easily accessible from major highways. From US 10, take the Eastman Avenue exit south to the corner of Eastman and St. Andrews. From M-20, turn left on Indian Street just after entering Midland’s downtown over the M-20 bridge. Indian will become Eastman, and the Center will be on your left at the corner of Eastman and St. Andrews.

To Midland County Historical Society’s Heritage Park

Located at 3417 West Main Street, Heritage Park is easy to find. From Main Street and M-20 in downtown Midland, head west on Main Street to Cook Road. The first stop in Heritage Park is the new Herbert D. Doan Midland County History Center at the corner of Main and Cook, and parking for the rest of Heritage Park is just around the corner on Cook Road.

   - one free chaperone per five students

Admission is free to members of the A.B. Dow Museum of
Science and Art (ABD) as well as the Friends of the Center (FOC)

Admission includes the regular exhibits in the art galleries on the upper floors as well as the permanent exhibit in the hands-on science museum (Hall of Ideas) in the main floor gallery. Special exhibits sometimes carry a modest surcharge.

Cameras and video equipment: The only place that cameras and video equipment are allowed in the building are in the permanent exhibit in the hands-on science museum,"Hall of Ideas."

Pre-registration is required for school groups, with special admissions prices of $3 per student and one free chaperone per five students. To schedule a group tour for the Alden B. Dow Museum of Science and Art, email us or call (989) 631-5930 ext. 1225.

Wheelchair Access
Visitors to Midland Center for the Arts will discover a wheelchair-friendly environment with convenient parking spaces, outside ramps, automatic doors, wheelchair seating in the Little Theatre and Auditorium, accessible restrooms and drinking fountains, lifts and an elevator in the southwest corner of the brick lobby. Always mention a wheelchair accessibility requirement when reserving theatre tickets through the Ticket Office. Wheelchairs are available and may be reserved by calling the Information Center at (989) 631-5930.

Vision Impaired
Permanent exhibits are labeled in Braille, with Braille maps and text available.

Earphones for Hearing Enhancement
Earphones may be checked out from the Information Center to reinforce the sound in both theatres during a performance, and can be used with or without hearing aids.

Smoke-Free Facility
Those sensitive to smoke will appreciate knowing that smoking is permitted only outside the building, away from the underhang at the St. Andrews entrance.

MUSEUM STORE

The museum store at MCFTA provides a wide variety of children’s educational gifts, specialty items for the arts lovers in your household and unique gifts as a souvenir or your visit to MCFTA. Proceeds from sales help to support all of the activities provided by your Center for the Arts in Midland.

Self-Guided Architectural Tour, Highlighting the works of Alden B. Dow
This drive-by tour begins at Midland Center for the Arts. Visitors will be provided with a map and a audio cassette for a cost of $5. You will see five decades of Dow's design, Midland's historic district featuring homes built by the local citizens in the 1800s, the unique Tridge and many more - 21 architectural treasures in all. The approximate length of the tour is 1 1/2 hours. For more information, call (989) 631-5930.

The Alden B. Dow Home and Studio, a National Historic Landmark located at 315 Post Street, Midland, Michigan, was designed by Alden B. Dow in 1934. Alden Dow (1904-1983), an organic architect and student of Frank Lloyd Wright, designed for 50 years throughout the United States and was the creator of Midland Center for the Arts. His home and studio has been preserved for architectural study, education programming and to share with the public. Scheduled hours and group tours are available.
