Midland Center for the Arts

MCFTA FRIENDS OF THE CENTER

In May of 1971, Alden B. Dow dedicated the Midland Center for the Arts saying:"This Center helps to satisfy the creative drives that exist in all of us."

Today, over 30 years later, Midland Center for the Arts offers a unique environment among the many cultural centers that populate the landscape of America. "Some of the time we create and some of the time we appreciate," he said, unveiling the inspiration that would, to this day, drive the Center’s continuing development, programming and mission.

Midland Center for the Arts embodies the dream of being a world-class venue for the presentation of the finest expressions of human creativity, while concurrently being a place where ordinary citizens and their families can explore and develop their own creative potential.

The Center’s structure houses the staffs for MATRIX:MIDLAND, Music Society, Midland Symphony Orchestra, Theatre Guild, Midland County Historical Society and the Alden B. Dow Museum of Science and Art. Our combined mission is to provide resources for the education, entertainment and inspiration of the mid-Michigan region through art, science, history, performances and exhibits.

The Development Office partners with each of the Member Groups to help preserve and strengthen existing programs while discovering funding for the development and implementation of new programming. Together, we seek to reinforce the vision of Mr. Dow by providing the best that can be offered in the performing and visual arts as well as art and science education. This would not be possible without the widespread help from the community. We are indebted to the hundreds of generous donors who, through volunteer or financial commitments, make the Center what it is today. Support from private, corporate, foundation and government sources is vital to the Center's future.
