The Jo Harrigan Award

Overview

The Jo Harrigan Award is presented to a Music Society volunteer who has exhibited long-term dedication and participation in many aspects and areas to further the mission and vision of the Music Society at Midland Center for the Arts.

Established in 2003, the award honors and pays tribute to JoHarrigan, a long-time Midland resident and community volunteer who dedicated many years of valuable service to Music Society programs. As both performer and mentor, Jo Harrigan’s contributions of time and talent continue to exemplify how volunteerism and arts participation can significantly enhance the cultural vitality of our community.

Selection Process

The selection committee will include representatives from the Volunteer Relations Committee and the Special Awards Committee under the general direction of the Music Society Board of Managers. Nominations are open only to volunteers of the Music Society. The recipient will be notified in late summer and the individual’s name will be publicly released at the time of the award ceremony.

The award, in the form of a trophy specific to the recipient’s area of contribution, will be presented at an opening event of the Music Society season. In addition, each recipient’s name will be engraved on an individual nameplate and added to a commemorative plaque honoring Jo Harrigan that will be on permanent display in the Center lobby.
