TALES FROM THE CIRCUIT COURT
Now through Nov. 14, 2009
Rotating Gallery

Courts have been in session in Midland County since 1857. This exhibit features the history of the buildings which served as the site for these proceedings as well as some of the fascinating stories and people who filled the courtrooms and hallways.

Much of the information has been gleaned from the project, just completed, to process the Circuit Court Records Collection which includes case papers from 1847 to 1946.

Highlights of the project will be included in the exhibit. Also included will be artifacts and furniture from the Courthouse and from the Joel Kahn collection. Joel Kahn was a prominent attorney and prosecuting attorney whose long practice is reflected in many of the cases.

The exhibit will feature the history of Midland's Circuit Court and related personnel. It will also examine interesting court cases represented in the time span 1857 to 1946, and show how court case documents enrich our understanding of local history and beyond.

Admission (includes access to all Heritage Park exhibits):
Adults: $5 | Children 4-14: $3 | Children under 3: free
Admission is FREE for MCHS members and Friends of the Center

ON MY HONOR: Celebrating 100 Years of
Boy Scouts of America, 1910-2010

March 18, 2010 - November 13, 2010

Join us at the Herbert D. Doan Midland County History Center and view this unique exhibit focusing on the 100 year history of Boy Scouts in the United States.

In 2010, the MCHS is helping to celebrate the centennial of an organization that has impacted millions of people worldwide, and thousands of local residents, as well. A special exhibit, created and installed in The Doan History Center next spring, will highlight and celebrate the accomplishments of the Boy Scouts, founded in 1910 by Lord Baden-Powell as a small organization in England. The values and impact of a few small troops were soon noticed, and within a few short years the organization had grown to hundreds of troops located around the world. In Midland, the first Boy Scout troop was organized in 1913, and today there are dozens of troops in Midland County.

The MCHS has partnered with the Lake Huron Area Council of The Boy Scouts of America to create an exhibit that will display local and regional artifacts, describe the unique contributions of the local scouting movement, and highlight area scouts over time. Numerous related programs will also be offered in conjunction with the exhibit.

We are seeking support for the exhibit on a wide range of levels, including artifacts (donated or lent) and information, volunteers to assist in the exhibit’s creation, and financial support. If you are interested in helping us with this fascinating project, please contact Gary at 631-5930, ext. 1300.

Admission (includes access to all Heritage Park exhibits):
Adults: $5 | Children 4-14: $3 | Children under 3: free
