Join us at the Herbert D. Doan Midland County History Center and view this unique exhibit focusing on the 100 year history of Boy Scouts in the United States.
In 2010, the MCHS is helping to celebrate the centennial of an organization that has impacted millions of people worldwide, and thousands of local residents, as well. A special exhibit, created and installed in The Doan History Center next spring, will highlight and celebrate the accomplishments of the Boy Scouts, founded in 1910 by Lord Baden-Powell as a small organization in England. The values and impact of a few small troops were soon noticed, and within a few short years the organization had grown to hundreds of troops located around the world. In Midland, the first Boy Scout troop was organized in 1913, and today there are dozens of troops in Midland County.
The MCHS has partnered with the Lake Huron Area Council of The Boy Scouts of America to create an exhibit that will display local and regional artifacts, describe the unique contributions of the local scouting movement, and highlight area scouts over time. Numerous related programs will also be offered in conjunction with the exhibit.
We are seeking support for the exhibit on a wide range of levels, including artifacts (donated or lent) and information, volunteers to assist in the exhibit’s creation, and financial support.
