CAROUSELS: ART AND
SCIENCE IN MOTION
Through July 13, 2008
This exhibition will delight everyone with items selected from the International Museum of Carousel Art Hood River, Oregon, which is blessed with a collection of more than 700 carousel figures. The exhibition will present an overview of the history of carousel carving companies and styles and evolving stages of development in the the world.  Subsections of the project discuss exotic animal figures, the armored horses, farm animals, patriotic themes, chariots, rare and unusual figure carving, the importance of restoration and preservation, and a look at the science behind the engines, gears and motion.

MIDLAND AREA SCHOOLS ART SHOW
Through May 18, 2008
This annual exhibition showcases artwork of promising young students in local public schools. Hundreds of pieces set the galleries ablaze with inspired creativity, color and imagination. From drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, to watercolor, oil, acrylic, collage, ink, pastel, bronze, plaster, the range of materials and the breadth of thematic variations works tell the stories of their creativity and the outlook of today's youth and the creative influence of the teachers of our great school system.

JUN KANEKO
May 31-Aug. 10, 2008
Japan born Jun Kaneko, studied painting at Chouinard Institute of Art, but was drawn to sculptural ceramics studying with master ceramicists Peter Voulkos, Paul Soldner and key others. He has taught at some of the nation's leading art schools including Scripps College and Cranbrook Academy of Art and the Rhode Island School of Design. This exhibition will focus on Kaneko's work in ceramic sculpture and drawings and paintings from the past two decades.

 ZAP! SURGERY BEYOND
THE CUTTING EDGE

This exhibit helps people of all ages understand how light, sound and other forms of energy are being applied in today's faster, safer, less-invasive surgical procedures. The exhibition offers visitors interactive exhibits that demonstrate the science behind these technologies. Built to appeal to all ages and a variety of learning styles, ZAP! Surgery features high-and low-tech, hands-on stations where the visitor becomes the surgeon, and with video presentation that share the stories of doctors and patients and role playing activities. It's the stuff of lasers, endoscopes, ultrasound, cryosurgery and the Gamma Knife! Learn it by exploring it, by being the surgeon, and through real stories and real surgery. This exhibition is organized by the Carnegie Science Center of Pittsburgh, PA.

FASHION IN FILM: PERIOD CUSTUMES FOR THE SCREEN

Titanic..Pride and Prejudice..Evita..Out of Africa..Gosford Park..Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom..Dangerous Liaisons..Jefferson in Paris..Sense and Sensibility..Portrait of a Lady..they all come to life in the museum!!! Along with numerous film stills, 36 magnificent costumes singled out for Academy Awards and other nominations for costume design will be on display. Worn by the likes of Madonna, Anjelica Huston, Drew Barrymore, Gwyneth Paltrow, Liv Tyler, Elizabeth Taylor, Uma Thurman, Meryl Streep, Jacqueline Bisset, Melanie Griffith, Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet and Nicole Kidman, these authentic costumes come from a stock of nearly a million costumes and accessories made by the renowned British costumer, Cosprop. The lavish costumes were worn by these well-known actors in some of the most popular and successful period television and film productions of the last few decades. This exhibition is organized by the Trust for Museum Exhibitions, Washington, DC.
