TALES FROM THE CIRCUIT COURT
Now through Nov. 1, 2009
Rotating Gallery
Courts have been in session in Midland County since 1857. This exhibit features the history of the buildings which served as the site for these proceedings as well as some of the fascinating stories and people who filled the courtrooms and hallways.
Much of the information has been gleaned from the project, just completed, to process the Circuit Court Records Collection which includes case papers from 1847 to 1946.
Highlights of the project will be included in the exhibit. Also included will be artifacts and furniture from the Courthouse and from the Joel Kahn collection. Joel Kahn was a prominent attorney and prosecuting attorney whose long practice is reflected in many of the cases.
The exhibit will feature the history of Midland's Circuit Court and related personnel. It will also examine interesting court cases represented in the time span 1857 to 1946, and show how court case documents enrich our understanding of local history and beyond.
