It’s 1927 and silent film star Don Lockwood will make it in “talkies” just fine, but his leading lady Lina Lamont’s comically grating voice is likely to ruin their onscreen romance, which she is convinced is real off screen as well.
For its new musical, the movie studio decides to dub Lina’s voice with that of chorus girl Kathy Selden. The film premiere is a huge hit, and fans clamor for an encore, which Lina plans to perform live with Kathy lip-synching from backstage. Don and his best friend, Cosmos sabotage Lina’s plan, and in one sweeping moment Kathy’s career is launched… and the budding romance between Kathy and Don takes full bloom. A sparkling smile of a show! Love so sweet the guy can’t keep himself from… singin’ in the rain! Directed by Mychelle Hopkins. Music Director: Jim Hohmeyer ; Choreographer: Sandra Dean Black.

"TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD" AUDITIONS
Mon. and Tues., Sept. 8 and 9, 2008
7:30 - 10:00 p.m.
Lecture Room
Age: High School to Adult
By Christopher Sergel,
based upon the novel by Harper Lee. All the familiar characters, the small town setting and the major racial themes of Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel are preserved in this faithful adaptation for the stage. The audience becomes the jury overseeing the trial of the young black man accused of raping a white teenage girl in deep south Alabama during the 1930s. Scout Finch learns from her quietly courageous father, Atticus, that all men are entitled to be treated equally in a court of law, regardless of intense societal pressure to do otherwise. A deeply moving story about courage, racial injustice, the death of innocence and of coming of age. Directed by Susie Polito.

But the bruises heal and the hearts mend - almost - in this delightful midwinter night's dream. Directed by Tami Ramaker.

"AS BEES IN HONEY DROWN" AUDITIONS

7:30 - 10:00 p.m.
Lecture Room
Age: Adults
By Douglas Carter Beane.
Winner of the Outer Critics Circle Award and Obie Award.
Meet Alexa Vere de Vere, a rich, fabulous and oh-so-sensational black-clad woman of mystery who’s made the world of celebrity her home. Maybe she’s a record producer, maybe she’s a film agent; what is clear is that she wants novelist Evan Wyler, the media’s hottest thing-of-the-moment, to write the screenplay of her life story. In return, Alexa offers Evan a passport to the glamorous world of fame, fortune and the best tables everywhere, enticing him like a bee to honey.
And then Alexa vanishes, leaving Evan to foot the bill for all the dinners and Armani suits they’ve gone through. While trying to find her, Evan discovers her deep, dark secret and learns that he is not the only one who has fallen under her spell. A sexy, insightful satire about succumbing to the “buzz” and glamour of showbiz. Directed by Debbie Lake.

Music & Lyrics by Mark Hollmann, Book & Lyrics by Greg Kotis. Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critic’s Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards, and two Obie Awards.
Don’t let the title turn you off - this multi-award-winning satirical comedy musical will delight you as it pokes fun at capitalism, bureaucracy and petty small town politics. Drawing from West Side Story, Chicago, and Les Misérables among others, the show even pays witty and irreverent homage to musical theatre itself!
Urinetown is a town plagued by a 20-year drought, where water has become so scarce that only the extremely wealthy can enjoy private toilets – the masses are at the mercy of a greedy corporation that has a stranglehold on the town’s public amenities and charges the townsfolk exorbitant fees to carry out their most private and basic needs. Surely, an uprising must be on the horizon…Who will lead the downtrodden citizens to conquer these tyrannical bureaucrats?… Famous songs from the show include “It’s a Privilege to Pee” and “Run, Freedom, Run.” Directed by Bill Anderson Jr.
